Honourable Abu Bakarr Fofanah has officially subscribed to the Oath of Office as a Member of Parliament representing Kenema District.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Thursday, July 3, 2025, during a parliamentary sitting at the Chamber in Freetown.
His oath-taking aligns with Section 83 and the Third Schedule of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone (Act No. 6 of 1991), as well as Standing Order 1(a) of the Standing Orders of Parliament.
The Clerk of Parliament, through his Deputy, Gilbert Bosco N’habay, administered the oath following an official declaration from the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone confirming Hon. Fofanah’s election.
Hon. Fofanah replaces the late Hon. Musa Peter Moigua, who passed away in May this year.
Prior to the oath-taking, the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Segepoh Solomon Thomas, informed Members of Parliament about the correspondence received from the Electoral Commission, affirming Hon. Fofanah’s victory. The Speaker then instructed the Clerk to proceed with the swearing-in process in accordance with parliamentary procedures.
In his solemn oath, Hon. Fofanah pledged to uphold and defend the Constitution and to serve the nation with integrity and dedication:
“I, Honourable Abu Bakarr Fofanah of Kenema District, having been elected as a Member of Parliament, do hereby in the name of Allah, swear that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Republic of Sierra Leone as by law established… so help me Allah.”
Welcoming the new MP, Speaker Thomas extended warm congratulations and described the occasion as a reunion, highlighting Hon. Fofanah’s previous service to the House. He encouraged him to be active in all parliamentary proceedings and urged him to remain diligent in fulfilling his responsibilities to both Parliament and his constituents.
Speaker Thomas also reminded the new MP of his recent initiative to publicly acknowledge Members who attend sittings on time, as a way of boosting accountability and transparency. He concluded by urging Hon. Fofanah to uphold the commitments he made in his oath and serve as a worthy representative of Kenema District.
The swearing-in was facilitated and documented by the Parliamentary and Public Relations Department.
