Lindon Thomas, a Sierra Leonean photographer, remains in custody after his bail application was denied by Magistrate Santigie Bangura at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No.2 in Freetown, citing the serious nature of the charges he faces, including robbery with aggravation.
According to the particulars of the offense, Thomas allegedly committed the robbery on February 16, 2025, in Waterloo, Western Rural District, while armed with a syringe.
He is accused of stealing a motorbike (registration number ASZ 735), valued at 16,000 Leones, a Techno Pop 2 mobile phone worth 2,500 Leones, and 540 Leones in cash, totaling 19,040 Leones. Reports state that he inflicted personal violence on the victim, Joseph Thoronka, during the incident.
The charges were read to Thomas, although no plea was entered at that time.
State Prosecutor Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh requested a brief adjournment to confer with witnesses pertaining to the case.
Defense Counsel T. Foday Musa applied for bail on behalf of Thomas, arguing that the accused is a resident of the jurisdiction and has credible sureties to ensure his attendance in court.
He invoked Section 79 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Act of 1965 to support the bail request.
However, Magistrate Bangura denied the application, highlighting the serious nature of the allegations against Thomas. The matter was adjourned to April 23, 2025, for further proceedings.
