The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has successfully concluded a Strategic Communication Workshop for its media and public relations officers, marking a key milestone in the force’s transition toward a modern, people-centered service.
Organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sierra Leone, in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), the workshop provided participants with training in internal communication, external engagement, and content creation. The goal was to enhance trust-based relationships between the police, citizens, and other stakeholders.
In her closing remarks, the Director of Police Corporate Affairs, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Esther Mary Kaintor-Dukuray, emphasized the critical role of effective communication in building public confidence.
“Use both traditional and social media responsibly, provide accurate information, and build public trust,” she urged. “We must remain united and consistent in our messaging so that our institution speaks with one voice throughout this transition.”
The initiative is part of UNDP’s ongoing support to the SLP and reflects its broader mission of promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions under Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16). It also aligns with Sierra Leone’s Medium Term National Development Plan.
