Police in Sierra Leone have arrested eleven students from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, in connection with their alleged participation in activities characterized as cultism and misbehaviour.
The disclosure unfolded during a routine police press briefing at the Sierra Leone Police Headquarters on George Street in Freetown.
Awoko reports that during the briefing, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abdul Moijueh revealed that the students were reportedly involved in an initiation ceremony related to a secret society within the university premises. ACP Moijueh explained that the police were alerted to the suspicious activity, leading to a prompt investigation.
Upon arriving at the scene, ACP Moijueh reported that the students resisted police orders and exhibited unruly behavior towards law enforcement officers. Consequently, the police took into custody the eleven students involved in the incident.
At present, the suspects are being held at the Regent Police Station in the Western Rural District. ACP Moijueh assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway, and further updates will be shared with the media as the situation develops.
The police underscored their dedication to upholding law and order, ensuring community safety, and pledged to take decisive action against any activities that jeopardize public peace and security.
