The Mile 91 Police Division has arrested and is currently investigating Abdul Saybom Bangura, the prime suspect in the case of a nine-year-old boy who mysteriously went missing in Marunia Village, Kholifa Mabang, in the Northern District of Tonkolili.

Mohamed Kamara was in the care of the detained suspect but went missing in March 2024 for almost more than a year, leaving the entire Kholifa Mabang community in a panic.

Since the unusual incident occurred, Bangura was suspected by the majority of members of the community, and he was initially arrested. A known member of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party, Bangura was freed, prompting widespread allegations of interference from politically connected individuals.

Residents were left dumbfounded after the law enforcement officials allowed a case of a missing child to just die a natural death like that, and the prime suspect (s) was/were left to roam freely without facing justice.

A year after the mother of the nine-year-old boy and the entire community persistently cried for justice, Bangura admitted to the offence in several WhatsApp audio clips.

During a heated argument between Bangura and some of his political opponents, Bangura confessed that he was the one who handed over the boy to the former Regent Chief of Kholifa Mabang who is also the Chairman of SLPP in Constituency 049.

He was immediately declared wanted after his WhatsApp audio clips confessing to the offence went viral. He has been in hiding but was recently arrested in Makondu, a village near Mile 91 in the Yoni Mabanta Chiefdom.

While the community was celebrating his arrest, it was later learnt Bangura had escaped through the help of his accomplices, prompting the police to arrest several people who aided him to escape justice.

Unfortunately for Bangura, he was re-arrested around the border between Sierra Leone and Guinea by family members of those initially arrested for helping him escape.

He was transported back to the Mile 91 police station, where he’s currently being investigated.

Meanwhile, the public is eagerly waiting and warning against possible interference in the matter by politicians. The police are urged to speedily investigate the matter and ensure justice is served.
