The leadership of the Sierra Leone Police has ordered the transfer of Sergeant 14483 M.S. Swaray to the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) in Freetown for further investigations.

Swaray, until his arrest last night, was a Divisional NCO Crime Officer at the Mile 91 Police Station in Tonkolili. He resided in the Police Barracks at Mile-91.

Sgt Swaray was arrested after an anti-drugs team from the Makeni-based Northern regional police offices stormed his personal premises right inside the Mile-91 Police Barracks, based on a tip-off, intelligence, and found Kush & illicit Tramadol right inside his police quarters.

In his defence, Sgt Swaray reportedly says the illicit substances were “exhibits” from a case he was handling and that he took the Kush and Tramadol into his personal Police Barracks residence for “safekeeping”.

Finding his defence untenable, Swaray has now been transferred to Freetown’s TOCU by the Police leadership for further investigation.

The public will be updated as the investigation unfolds. The Mile 91 community is calling for an impartial investigation considering the manner drugs have ravaged its youthful population.
