On Monday, May 8th, 2023, the Sierra Leone Police Asset Department, under the leadership of D.S.P Mohamed Kabba, conducted a handover ceremony at the Mile 91 Police Division.

During the event, 102 copies of the Sierra Leone Police Code of Conduct for Public Elections were distributed to police personnel.

These guidelines were developed by the Sierra Leone Police Corporate Department at the Police Headquarters in Freetown.

The main objective was to provide clear instructions to police personnel regarding their expected behavior before, during, and after the upcoming June 2023 General Election.

12240 Yusuf Kamara, the acting Station Sergeant, received pocket-sized copies of the Sierra Leone Police Code of Conduct for Public Elections on behalf of the personnel in the Division.

The Sierra Leone Police Code of Conduct for Public Elections is a crucial framework that outlines the standards of professionalism, integrity, and impartiality expected from police personnel throughout the electoral process.

By offering clear guidelines on appropriate conduct, the code aims to establish public trust, maintain credibility, and ensure fairness in the execution of police duties.

The code covers various aspects, including the handling of sensitive information, upholding human rights, and enforcing electoral laws.

The handing over of the code of conduct to the personnel marks an important step for the Sierra Leone Police Force in promoting accountability and adherence to ethical standards. The objective is to prevent any potential misconduct, biases, or violations that could compromise the integrity of the electoral process.

During the ceremony, DSP Mohamed Kabba emphasized the significance of professional conduct and responsible execution of duties during the election period.

The Sierra Leone Police Code of Conduct for Public Elections benefits both the police force and the public. By following these guidelines, police personnel are expected to maintain public trust, demonstrate fairness, and avoid any perception of favoritism or political bias.

Furthermore, the code serves as a deterrent against personnel involved in politics or engaging in misconduct that could hinder the smooth execution of the June 2023 elections.

It also provides a framework for handling complaints, ensuring accountability, and addressing any violations that may occur.
