Officers of the Sierra Leone Police conducted a demolition operation at the Hill Cut Wash Car area on Tuesday morning, removing several roadside shops and kiosks deemed to be illegally obstructing public footpaths.

The action, led by Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police Dr. John Martin Senisie, targeted structures built directly on pedestrian walkways, which authorities said had made passage difficult and unsafe for the public.

In a statement, AIG Senisie explained that the demolition is part of broader efforts to restore public walkways, improve pedestrian safety, and enhance the overall appearance of the area. Police maintained a visible presence during the operation to ensure order.

The police also indicated that additional factors, including illegal construction and related criminal activities, contributed to the decision to clear the site.

Authorities confirmed that a number of arrests were made of individuals who attempted to obstruct the police operation. Properties such as motorcycles belonging to absent owners were impounded and can be retrieved from the Kingtom police station with the required documentation.

The operation attracted attention from local residents and road users, with police emphasizing the move as a step toward urban order and public safety. Further details on the enforcement campaign are expected to be released.
