Police Constable 15354, Alie Turay, has been dismissed from the Sierra Leone Police Force and formally charged to court following allegations of unlawful conduct related to the theft of state property.

The dismissal comes after an investigation into a theft incident at the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) Regional warehouse in Kenema.

On June 5th, 2024, the Regional Manager of NCRA-East, Edward Jackson Moisa Macauley, reported to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department (RCID) in Kenema that an unknown number of solar panels and other valuable items had been stolen from the NCRA warehouse.

During the investigation, two pairs of folding solar panels were recovered from Foday Sheriff Sengbeh, who claimed he had received the stolen items from Police Constable Turay.

The Complaint Discipline and Internal Investigation Department (CDIID) arrested Constable Turay, and following a thorough investigation, the case was brought to a disciplinary hearing presided over by ASP James Nicol Josah. Constable Turay faced three charges

Though it was found that Constable Turay was not directly involved in the break-in at the NCRA warehouse, the investigation revealed that he was complicit in the possession of the stolen solar panels.

His actions, deemed prejudicial to the discipline and order of the police force, led to a recommendation for his dismissal.ASP Josah, in delivering the verdict, cited multiple violations of the Police Discipline Code under the 2001 Police Discipline Regulations.

Turay was found guilty on all charges, and his dismissal was recommended, pending approval from the Inspector General of Police.

Constable Turay was informed of his right to appeal the ruling within 21 days. Following the disciplinary hearing, he was handed over to the Regional CID to face criminal charges in court for further trials.
