The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) is today, Thursday, 30 January 2026, set to officially unveil the newly constructed Regional Police Headquarters for Freetown East, marking a significant milestone in police infrastructure development and service delivery in the capital.

The state-of-the-art facility stands as a testament to the transformational leadership and long-term vision of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu, whose commitment to modernizing the SLP has remained unwavering over the years.

Construction of the headquarters began several years ago when Mr. Sellu was serving as a Chief Superintendent of Police. Despite various challenges, the project was sustained through dedication, strategic collaboration with community stakeholders, and strong government support. Its completion represents the fulfillment of a long-standing goal to provide Freetown East with a modern, functional, and well-equipped policing hub.

The new Regional Police Headquarters is expected to significantly enhance operational efficiency, coordination, and public service delivery within the Freetown East policing region. It will also provide improved working conditions for officers and a more accessible, professional environment for members of the public seeking police services.

According to the SLP, the commissioning of the facility aligns with broader institutional reforms being implemented under the leadership of IGP Sellu, aimed at repositioning the police force as a modern, people-centered, and service-oriented institution capable of effectively responding to contemporary security challenges.

The official unveiling and handing-over ceremony will take place today, with senior government officials, police leadership, community representatives, and other stakeholders expected to attend.

The development is being widely viewed as a symbol of progress, partnership, and renewed confidence in policing in Freetown East, reinforcing the SLP’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and public trust.
