In a disturbing incident unfolding in Pujehun, Sierra Leone, authorities are currently investigating a police officer accused of causing the death of a 14-year-old boy.
The tragic event reportedly occurred on Sunday, 30th June 2024, in Sahn Malen town.
According to ASP Kenawa John Square, the Media and Community Relations Officer of the Pujehun Police Division, the incident was first brought to light by Officer commanding in Sahn Malen, ASP Machel Tommy. Detective Sub Inspector Steven CM Gomeh, who also serves as Officer in Charge of CID at Sahn Malen Police station, allegedly assaulted Ibrahim Jaiah, aged 14, during the course of his duty.
Following the assault, Jaiah reportedly became unresponsive.
Upon receiving the report, a swift response team led by Crime Officer Detective Inspector Frank Pessima, alongside other officers aboard SLP-355, was dispatched to Sahn Malen town.
Their mission was twofold: to recover the lifeless body of Ibrahim Jaiah and to apprehend Detective Sub Inspector Steven CM Gomeh.
ASP Square emphasized that the accused police officer is currently in custody pending further investigation.
Authorities are awaiting the results of a postmortem examination at Bo Government Hospital, which aims to determine the exact cause of Ibrahim Jaiah’s death.
In his statement to the press, ASP Square called upon the public to maintain confidence in the Sierra Leone police force, assuring them that the investigation will be conducted diligently and transparently.
He pledged to provide updates on the case as more information becomes available.
This incident has sparked widespread concern within the community, prompting calls for accountability and justice as authorities work to uncover the truth behind this tragic event.
