The government’s Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Owizz Koroma, has presented an autopsy report to the High Court regarding the death of Prison Officer Obi Isaac Johnson.
The report, submitted during the ongoing trial of George Adams, revealed that Johnson died of a single bullet wound to the head, a conclusion described as “homicidal” by the expert witness.
Dr. Koroma testified before Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens that the bullet entered the right side of Johnson’s parietal lobe and exited on the left, causing massive brain fractures and hemorrhagic shock.
The autopsy confirmed that the fatal shot was fired from an AK-47 rifle, causing severe damage to major blood vessels. Dr. Koroma stated that Johnson, aged 30, was physically healthy and had no pre-existing conditions that could have contributed to his death.
The court learned that Johnson was shot at the Pademba Road Correctional Centre at approximately 8:56 a.m. on November 26, 2023, during a failed coup attempt. He was pronounced dead a few minutes later. The deceased’s mother, Mrs. Katrine Conteh, and law enforcement officials identified the body before the autopsy was conducted on December 1, 2023.
The accused, George Adams, is facing three charges: treason, misprision of treason, and murder. The prosecution’s case hinges on the autopsy findings and eyewitness testimony, as they argue Adams’ involvement in the events that led to Johnson’s death.
