George Brown, one of the prisoners who escaped during the failed coup attempt on November 26, 2023, appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 on Monday, facing charges of wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The charges relate to an alleged knife attack on businessman Mohamed Alie Bah on March 14, 2025, in the Kroo Town Road area of Freetown.
According to court reports, Brown, who was previously serving a sentence at Pademba Road Prison for a similar knife attack on his uncle, is accused of maliciously wounding Bah in his lower left eye.
The complainant, Mohamed Alie Bah, testified in court that he knew the accused through his brother, Ibrahim Bah. He recounted an incident on March 14th when his brother informed him that he had given Brown 7,000 Leones to deliver, which was never received.
Bah and his brother subsequently located Brown on Adelaide Street, where he was surrounded by people. Bah stated that upon apprehending Brown, they discovered new mobile phones, a watch, clothes, and the missing money in his possession. These items were reportedly handed over to the Adelaide Street Police Station as evidence.
The following day, Bah alleged that Brown came to his residence demanding the return of his belongings, and Bah directed him to the police station. Bah further testified that Brown then threatened to kill him. Later that day, while Bah was speaking with a man named Abdulai, Brown allegedly approached and stabbed him in the lower left eye with a knife, causing bleeding. Brown then fled the scene.
Following the incident, Brown was arrested and taken to the Central Police Station. Bah received medical treatment at Connaught Hospital and presented an endorsed medical report to the police, along with his statement.
In court, the unrepresented accused, George Brown, conducted his own cross-examination of the complainant.
Magistrate Santigie Bangura ordered that Brown be remanded in custody. The case has been adjourned until April 15, 2025, for further proceedings.
Wickedness to the highest degree
Don’t keep evil, this is lesson for you next time, I believe that you know that evil before this time but you never reportded to the police unless when he has caused damage, government always give warning
I’m shocked at the shear hypocrisy of Sierra Leoneans who knew Brown to have escaped from prison but couldn’t report the matter to police. Any society that rejects the principles of right and wrong is destined to fail abysmally. When did we get to this level of moral decadence and I-don’t-care attitude?
When I was younger and in the provinces, I watched a Chinese movie whose tittle I can’t remember now. An old man said something in that movie I will never forget and in later years I realized that the divine was talking to me through that old man. The old man, carrying few of his clothes in a bundle on his back said, “This city is a slave of violence; but I pray it doesn’t become it’s master.” That was in 1999 before the RUF invaded Makeni.
Now I’m an adult living in Freetown. I pray that this city doesn’t become the master of violence in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen and Amen!
