A JSS 2 pupil, Ansu Kamara, was on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, discharged by Principal Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah of the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 after pleading guilty to charges of wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Kamara was charged with two counts: wounding contrary to Section 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to Section 47 of the same Act.

According to the prosecution, led by ASP Ibrahim Mansaray, the incident occurred on Thursday, September 4, 2025, when Kamara maliciously wounded one Mohamed Pizaro Kamara in Freetown. ASP Mansaray informed the court that the accused was a first-time offender and presented an audio recording in which Kamara pleaded for mercy.

When the charges were read and explained to him, Kamara admitted guilt and asked the court to temper justice with mercy. He also displayed his understanding of basic grammar when Magistrate Jah asked him to define a “noun” and a “verb,” to which Kamara correctly replied, “A noun is the name of a person, animal, place, or thing, and a verb is an action word.”

In his ruling, Magistrate Jah noted that Kamara’s age, pupil status, and clean record were key mitigating factors. He stated that his decision not to impose a custodial sentence or fine was meant to serve as a warning and a lesson for the young offender.

The magistrate therefore cautioned and discharged Kamara, advising him to concentrate on his education and become a responsible citizen.
