In a bid to minimize the spread of communicable diseases in Bombali District, members of staff of the Sierra Leone Red Cross society and over 50 volunteers have embarked on cleaning the district.
This comes after the district council declared Saturday, April 20, 2024, a General Cleaning Day.
Speaking to Sierraloaded, the branch manager of Sierra Leone Red Cross society in Bombali District, Mohamed Sesay, said the cleaning exercise began in Makeni, capturing public and strategic places like Masuba Market, Fullah mosque, Holy Spirit, Rogbaneh Road and it cuts across the district.
“Makeni is the capital of Bombali District. It houses many people. As a result, we began the cleaning here at public and strategic places like Masuba Market, Fullah mosque, Holy Spirit, Rogbaneh Road and it cuts across the district,” the branch manager of Sierra Leone Red Cross society in Bombali District, Mohamed Sesay, said.
Mohamed Sesay added that saving life, among many other things, is a fundamental aspect of Red Cross. Hence, they plunged into cleaning public places in Bombali District to save more lives.
He further said the humanitarian organization wants to ensure that Bombali District is clean, and people stop falling sick because of unclean and unsanitary environment.
Speaking about the challenges, Sesay said they were faced with few difficulties, especially the absence of vehicle to transport wastes to garbage dump.
“We have had so many challenges, while trying to clean up Bombali District. The main challenge is the absence of vehicle to transport dirt to wasteyard,” Sesay said.
