The Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS), in partnership with District Health Management Teams (DHMTs) and the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), has begun a series of orientation sessions aimed at strengthening immunization efforts in five districts:
Kambia, Port Loko, Bombali, Tonkolili, and Karene. This initiative is part of the GAVI-funded “Find Everyone Everywhere” (FEE) project, which seeks to improve routine immunization coverage across the country.
These two-day training sessions focus on equipping vaccinators and social mobilizers with the necessary tools to effectively communicate the importance of vaccines to their communities.
Participants are trained to address common concerns and misconceptions surrounding immunization, build public trust, and promote vaccine safety and efficacy.
The sessions also emphasize the importance of adhering to the immunization schedule and the critical role vaccines play in preventing life-threatening diseases.
By empowering outreach teams with the skills to advocate for vaccines and respond to community questions, the initiative aims to dispel myths and combat misinformation that can hinder vaccine uptake.
Teams are also trained to foster a sense of collective responsibility for public health, encouraging families to prioritize timely vaccinations for their children.
This effort is expected to significantly improve immunization rates in the targeted districts, ensuring a healthier future for Sierra Leone’s children and contributing to the broader goal of preventing vaccine-preventable diseases nationwide.
