The newly transferred OSD Regional Coordinator to the East-Deputy Superintendent of police (D/SP) Hilton Lahai has on the 22nd January 2024 established a special standby unit nicknamed “De Talaban”, to respond to distressed calls and emergencies from communities in the region.

In his briefing, he remarked that the Creation of the Special Unit in Kenema shows a commitment to improving emergency response and ensuring the safety and well-being of the community, maintaining that forming the Special Unit indicates that the SLP recognizes the unique needs and challenges in handling distress calls, especially in a fast growing city like Kenema.

Lahai informed the brilliant personnel that their responsibilities, amongst others, are to  swiftly respond to emergency situations, patrol within the security sections in Kenema,  provide assistance, and ensure public safety, adding that, the ‘Talaban” Unit is structured to be professional in the dispensation of their responsibilities and warned them against deviating  from the general purpose of the SLP, and the unit itself.

Inspector JJ Alpha assured the OSD boss of his team’s unwavering commitment to handle distress calls, and enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency response. He said these determinations, would help save lives, prevent further harms and build trust and confidence in the community for which may be their core mandate.
