On March 8, 2025, religious leaders in Makeni took a firm stance against drug abuse and indecent dressing, describing them as threats to moral values and community stability.

The resolution was made during a meeting at the Pastoral Centre Hall in Makeni, where the leaders emphasized the urgency of addressing these social challenges.

The meeting brought together Imams from different Islamic sects, including Shia, Sunni and Ahmadist communities. Bishop Bob John emphasized that faith leaders have a duty to uphold discipline and ensure that young people grow up with strong moral foundations.

The discussion focused on the increasing cases of drug abuse, particularly among the youth, and its impact on families, education, and crime rates. The religious leaders acknowledged that substance abuse is fueling violence, school dropouts and health complications, making it a serious societal issue.

The leaders also raised concerns over indecent dressing, describing it as a growing trend that contradicts cultural and religious values. They emphasized the need for guidance to help young people understand the importance of modesty and self-respect.

To take action, Sheikh Mohame Jalloh was appointed as the coordinator to lead efforts in addressing these challenges.

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to uphold moral standards, engage policymakers, and collaborate with schools and families to protect the younger generation from harmful influences.
