The tragic murder of Reverend Father Augustine Dauda Amadu came under sharp focus at Pademba Road Court No. 1 on Monday as witness testimony revealed chilling details of the priest’s death.
Appearing before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah were six accused men: Martin Sellu, Gbassay Swarray, Foday Sallu, John Bangalie alias Boika, Joseph Gilamaja Kamara alias Shine, and Foday Alhassan Sesay. They face charges of murder, conspiracy, armed robbery, and receiving stolen property.
Reverend Father Michael Thomas Lamboi, a key witness, recounted events of August 30, 2025. He told the court that after conducting morning prayers, he received several missed calls before learning of Father Amadu’s death. Acting swiftly, he traveled to Kenema, where he passed an ambulance and a crowd moving towards the mortuary. At the priest’s residence, he found the premises locked before proceeding to the police station to make a formal statement.
Prosecutors said the accused conspired to carry out a robbery and murder in Bo City and Kenema. On the day of the incident, they allegedly attacked Father Amadu with a locally made gun, robbing him of a laptop valued at $350 and Le5,000 cash. The sixth accused is also alleged to have received a stolen laptop from another robbery in Waterloo.
Detective Police Officer Issa Kamara testified that the stolen laptop had been recovered and presented as evidence.
The accused did not enter a plea, as the matter is still at the preliminary investigation stage. Magistrate Jah ordered all six men remanded at the Male Correctional Center until the next hearing, scheduled for October 6, 2025.
