Khadija Tejan Nabie, a prominent human rights activist, has issued a public appeal for urgent government intervention following reports of threats against journalist Amadu Lamrana Bah of the Truth Media Platform.

The threats were allegedly made during a recent live show hosted by Madam Admire Bio and her husband. In a statement released today, Nabie urged the President of Sierra Leone, Members of Parliament, and law enforcement authorities to investigate the matter and take immediate measures to ensure Bah’s safety.

She emphasized the government’s duty to protect journalists and uphold press freedom, noting that intimidation and threats against media professionals undermine democracy and public accountability

“Journalists must be able to do their work freely, without fear of threats, attacks, abuse of power, nepotism, or favoritism. The safety and security of journalists are paramount to a functioning democracy and the public’s right to information,” she stated.

Amadu Lamrana Bah, known for his outspoken stance against drug abuse in Sierra Leone, has consistently used his platform to highlight the dangers of narcotics. Nabie warned that threats against such voices endanger not only individuals but also national efforts to curb drug misuse.

She called on authorities, particularly within the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, to strengthen protection mechanisms and adopt a depoliticized approach to the issue.

“This matter must not be viewed through a political lens but treated as a national imperative,” Nabie added.
