A tragic road accident occurred on Friday in Yainkaysa village, near Gbere Junction in Port Loko District, resulting in the deaths of three individuals. The victims have been identified as Alhassan Alie Kamara, Amara Kamara, and Mohamed Sahid Sankoh.
According to Port Loko Police District Traffic Officer Aminata Bangura, the incident took place when a large truck traveling to Freetown collided with a red motorbike. The truck bore the registration number ATB 649, while the motorbike had the registration number AQG 628.
“Two of the victims died on the spot, while the third died at the Port Loko Government Hospital,” Bangura told SLENA. She expressed her concern, mentioning that the three men were from Maport-Tornlon village in Samu Chiefdom, Kambia District close to Port Loko District. However, she was uncertain about whether they were journeying from that area.
According to the officer, the frequency of road accidents tends to rise significantly during the festive season. This increase is largely attributed to factors such as excessive speeding, overloading of vehicles, and a general disregard for established travel regulations.
She ended by admonishing drivers and riders to be cautious when using the highway this festive season and to obey traffic rules.
