On the evening of Friday, August 2, 2024, the Nightwatch newspaper office at 29 Rawdon Street in Freetown was broken into under mysterious circumstances. The burglary occurred after the office had been closed for the day by the proprietor, managing editor, and publisher, Emmanuel C. Thorli.

The break-in has raised questions about how the perpetrator managed to gain access to the securely locked office. The matter was reported to the Central Police Division in Freetown by Mr. Thorli on Saturday, August 3, and an investigation is currently underway.

During the robbery, critical equipment essential to the newspaper’s operations was stolen, including three laptops and an iPod. In addition to the stolen electronics, the robber also took a bag full of tennis shoes from the publisher’s office. Despite other valuables being left behind, the nature of the theft has led to speculation among occupants of the office building that the incident may have been more than a typical burglary.

Authorities are investigating the break-in, and efforts are being made to recover the stolen items and identify those responsible for the crime.
