Sierra Leone’s representation in continental governance has been strengthened following the election of Hon. Rosemarie Bangura, Member of Parliament for Tonkolili District, as Vice Chairperson of the West African Regional Caucus of the Pan-African Parliament.

Her election is being regarded as a significant development for Sierra Leone’s participation in regional and African legislative affairs, particularly within structures that influence policy direction and cooperation across West Africa.

The West African Regional Caucus of the Pan-African Parliament serves as a key platform for harmonising legislative priorities, promoting unity among member states, and addressing shared socio-economic and political challenges within the sub-region.

Hon. Bangura’s elevation to the position reflects growing confidence in her leadership among her regional counterparts. It also underscores Sierra Leone’s increasing visibility in continental decision-making processes under the African Union framework.

Widely recognised for her work in public service, Hon. Bangura has over the years been involved in advocacy on issues including community development, improved livelihoods, gender inclusion, and the strengthening of democratic governance.

In her new role, she is expected to support the Chairperson in coordinating caucus activities, facilitating dialogue among West African member states, and ensuring that the region’s interests are effectively represented within broader African Union deliberations.

Her election has been welcomed by colleagues and stakeholders who believe her experience and commitment will contribute to strengthening cooperation and advancing the objectives of the caucus.

The development is also being celebrated as a positive milestone for Sierra Leone, further positioning the country within key continental institutions while reinforcing its voice in discussions on peace, economic integration, and sustainable development across Africa.

Observers note that her appointment could also serve as an inspiration to women and young leaders aspiring to take up roles in governance and regional leadership structures.
