The Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) has taken a significant step in bolstering its capacity to provide safe drinking water to the people of Port Loko by installing a new transformer at its water treatment plant.
The move has been widely lauded as an essential development for the community and the company.
The installation comes after the old transformer was severely damaged by a thunderstorm, leaving residents and SALWACO management dissatisfied with the disruption in water supply.
The damaged transformer had rendered the treatment plant less effective, putting pressure on the company’s efforts to maintain consistent water service in the region.
Engineer Hamid A. Kamara, Station Manager of SALWACO in Port Loko, spearheaded efforts to address the issue by engaging key stakeholders.
He initiated discussions with local authorities, including the Resident Minister North, the City Mayor, and the Council Chairman, as well as the leadership of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) in Port Loko. This collaborative approach resulted in the successful acquisition and installation of the new transformer.
Upon its installation, Ing. Kamara expressed his gratitude to SALWACO’s leadership, particularly Managing Director Ing. George Lamin Vandi and Deputy Managing Director Apostle Dr. Albert Harrison Harvey, for their strategic oversight in facilitating the replacement.
“The supply and installation of this new transformer at the Port Loko Treatment Plant is a crucial step towards ensuring improved water service delivery.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to our leadership and colleagues at headquarters who worked tirelessly to make this a reality,” he stated.
He emphasized that reliable energy is key to maintaining consistent and sustainable water service delivery, and the installation of the new transformer marks a critical improvement in achieving this goal.
SALWACO’s commitment to providing clean and safe drinking water remains a top priority.
This development not only ensures continued service for the people of Port Loko but also aligns with the company’s broader objectives of sustainable growth and revenue generation.
The new transformer installation is a clear affirmation of SALWACO’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure and meeting its mission to deliver high-quality water services to communities across Sierra Leone.
