The Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) has restored the supply of water in parts of Lungi, Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom in Port Loko District, North-west region of Sierra Leone.

The Acting Station Manager, Ing. Lovetta Mammy revealed that the increased water is a result of maintenance works. She noted that while there is adequate water in storage, faulty and old pipes need to be replaced with new ones.

The Acting Station Manager stated that there is a need for the Absestos pipes to be replaced with DI pipes which are effective for water supply.

The maintenance works at the Suctarr Pumping Station at the Garrison Barracks have restored water supply to all three zones including Tintafor and the old Airport communities. Ing. Mammy said residents of the town could now access pipe-borne water at least twice a week.

SALWACO has called on residents of the town to pay their bills promptly. They said that timely payments are essential for the efficient and effective management of facilities, helping the organisation meet its operational targets.

Lungi is a large town in Sierra Leone, notable for being the location of the country’s only international airport. Historically, the town faced neglect, but in recent decades, significant improvements have been made, including the restoration of electricity and the introduction of pipe-borne water. These advancements have contributed to the development and revitalisation of the area.
