Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has delivered the keynote address at the 50th anniversary celebration of Awada School in Bo, reflecting on the institution’s profound impact on his personal and professional journey.

Dr. Sengeh, an alumnus of Awada from pre-primary through class six, recalled leaving the school as the top national primary school pupil in the Southern Region. “The training and discipline I received at Awada prepared me to excel at the best secondary school in Sierra Leone, Prince of Wales, as well as at the world-renowned Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology,” he said.

Highlighting the school’s continued legacy of excellence, the Chief Minister noted that Awada Primary School now counts three government ministers among its alumni. “I think it’s because of our motto: Persevere to Higher Heights. But we aren’t done yet; there’s a higher height we must climb,” he added.

Dr. Sengeh also shared a personal connection, revealing that his first daughter, Nyaanina, attended Awada as her first school in Sierra Leone.

He commended the proprietress and manager, Chadia Awada Talib, for her leadership, noting that the school has grown fourfold under her guidance while maintaining a 100 percent pass rate. He expressed particular admiration that most pupils, especially girls, are pursuing studies in the sciences.

During the ceremony, the Chief Minister presented certificates to pupils and teachers, including his former nursery and class five teacher, who has served the school for over 40 years. “I learned arts, music, public speaking, and so much more from them,” he said.

One alumnus, Mr. Peter George, also inspired attendees with his journey from participating in the Innovate Salone program to becoming a successful innovator and entrepreneur. Dr. Sengeh reflected on the story’s impact and posed the question: Should Innovate Salone be brought back?
