September 11 Protest: Magistrate Mustapha Braima-Jah Sentence 7 to Prison

Mena Hills Magistrate’s Court – His Lordship Magistrate Mustapha Braima-Jah has on Monday 2nd October sentenced 7 accused persons at the Makeni Correctional Centre for Unlawful Procession, Riotous Conduct, and Disorderly Behavior among other offenses.

The 7 -accused 4 men and 3 women were brought before the Court to answer to three Counts to wit, Conspiracy to commit a crime contrary to law; Unlawful Possession contrary to section 17 (3) of the Public Order Act No. 46 of 1965; Riotous Conduct, contrary to Section 12(a) of the Public Order Act No. 46 of 1965 and Disorderly Behaviour, contrary to Section 12(a) of the Public Order Act No. 46 of 1965 as repealed and replaced by Act No. (brandxhuaraches) 15 of 1973.

It is alleged that on the 11th day of September 2023 in the Northern province in the Bombali Judicial District in the of the Republic of Sierra Leone, the 7 accused persons conspired together and with other persons unknown to commit a crime to wit, Unlawful Procession without lawful authority.

They were arrested at different areas in Makeni (Masuba road, NP area) respectively.

The 3 women pleaded guilty to the offenses and they were sentenced to six months in prison each.

Whilst the 4 men initially pleaded not guilty in their first appearance, but later in their second appearance before the Magistrate on Monday 2nd October 2023 pleaded guilty, and they were sentenced to 12 months Jail term each.

The matter was Prosecuted by Sgt 7742 Koroma B. Representing the accused persons were Lawyer V.Koroma for Legal Aid Board and Lawyer M.B Kamara for AdvocAid sierra Leone .

Ibrahim Karim Kebe. Every country has requirements before staging demonstration even here in the UK, US, FRANCE, CANADA etc. You have to present your reasons for demonstrating, who are you targeting and in some cases where are you going to demonstrate. The Authorities including the police will conduct vetting and decides either to render you permit or not. I am sorry I couldn't tag you on my comment.

Demonstration requires no permit It is only in Sierra Leone because we will forever be behind like a tail in everything..put it simple. If you go to police and say I am applying for a permit to demonstrate against the government, will you get it? Know that police every where in the world work for the government. Only what the police will do is to be around to stop people not to engage what is not pertinent to the protest or demonstration. One good turn deserves another. Today is APC crying 😭😭😭 for justice. I pray for long life to see the next 60 years and witness what is to come between APC and SLPP in Sierra Leone

Where is Adebayor, to come to the rescue to these fools. They stupidly listen to that idiot in Holland, who is sponsored and spoon-fed by the expired APC executive. Now they are going to the slammer, leaving their families behind. So dumb! This Judge is a kind-hearted man. They deserve a longer prison sentence.
