In a recent press release, Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has successfully apprehended a Nigerian national named Best Benjamin Nnanyereugo at Leads Hotel in Aberdeen, Freetown, on Friday, October 20th, 2023, following a request from the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Nigeria.
Best Benjamin Nnanyereugo, now in the custody of Sierra Leone authorities, is a wanted individual in Nigeria, where he is accused of a grave crime – the murder of his 21-year-old girlfriend, Augusta Onuwabhagbe Osedion. After the alleged crime, he managed to flee Nigeria.
Responding swiftly to the NCB’s request, the Sierra Leone Police, specifically through its Criminal Investigations Department (CID), detained the fugitive. This arrest signifies a critical step toward ensuring Nnanyereugo faces justice for the alleged homicide.
In light of this apprehension, the Sierra Leone Police leadership has clarified that the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Sierra Leone is collaborating with the Attorney General’s Office to facilitate Nnanyereugo’s extradition to Nigeria. Upon extradition, he will be subject to the legal consequences of the alleged crime in Nigeria.
