Police in Lagos, Nigeria have confirmed the arrest of Benjamin Nnanyereugo in Sierra Leone in connection with the murder of his girlfriend, Augusta Osedion. Nnanyereugo, 26, had been previously declared wanted for the alleged crime.
Police Public Relations Officer for Lagos State, Mr. Benjamin Hundeyin, informed the press early Saturday about the arrest. “We can confirm that Benjamin Nnanyereugo has been detained by the Sierra Leone Police Force. Efforts are currently underway to extradite him to Nigeria,” Hundeyin commented.
While the exact circumstances surrounding Nnanyereugo’s arrest remain unclear, it is known that the Lagos State Police had been on the hunt for him following the discovery of the tragic incident.
Osedion, just 21 years old, was believed to have been murdered by Nnanyereugo on July 13, 2023, in his residence at Oral Estate, Ajah. The police statement disclosed, “Upon exhausting all means to secure his apprehension, he was declared wanted.”
Nnanyereugo is described as being approximately 5’9″ in height, dark-skinned, and originates from Abia State. He is fluent in English, Igbo, and Pidgin English.
As the investigation unfolds, more details are expected to emerge concerning the reasons behind the alleged murder and the subsequent events leading to the suspect’s arrest in Sierra Leone.
