Two Sierra Leonean nationals have been arrested by officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) after allegedly attempting to smuggle illegal drugs concealed in their underwear at a checkpoint in Liberia.

The arrests were made during a routine security operation at the Tienii Check Point in Grand Cape Mount County, where LDEA officers intercepted the suspects following what authorities described as a meticulous search.

According to the LDEA, the two individuals, whose identities have not yet been made public, reportedly attempted to evade detection but were stopped by alert officers stationed at the checkpoint. A subsequent search led to the discovery of a significant quantity of illegal drugs hidden in their underwear.

Authorities said the suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue. The agency noted that further inquiries are underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attempted smuggling, including the origin and intended destination of the drugs.

The LDEA stated that preparations are ongoing for possible prosecution, in line with Liberia’s drug control laws.

The agency reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and strengthening border security, emphasizing that vigilance at checkpoints remains a key strategy in intercepting illicit substances and preventing cross-border crime.
