The Sierra Leone Police have successfully apprehended six individuals suspected of being hardcore armed robbers in Bo.

The arrest followed a series of targeted operations in response to a recent surge in violent crimes in the city.

The arrests took place on the evening of Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Africa Guest House in the Njagboima Section of Bo City.

According to the Southern Regional Police Commander, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Brima Kanneh, three of the suspects hailed from Rutile, while the other three were residents of Bo.

The police recovered a fully loaded AK-47 rifle with the serial number SL/SLP 16 4902706-2778 and other dangerous ammunition during the raid.

The operation was launched in direct response to the increasing frequency of armed robberies in Bo and the surrounding areas, which had created a climate of fear among residents. Just a week prior to the arrests, a mechanic in the Torgboi Town section of Bo was tragically shot and killed by armed assailants on August 15, 2024, intensifying the urgency for law enforcement to take decisive action.

AIG Kanneh praised the coordinated efforts that led to the arrests, expressing gratitude to the Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police, IG William Fayia Sellu, for deploying a specialized anti-robbery team to bolster security measures in Bo. He assured the public that the police are firmly in control of the situation and are committed to restoring peace and security in the city.
