Justice Monfred Momoh Sesay, in a judgment delivered yesterday, convicted Abdul Gibao and five others after they were found guilty of robbery-related offenses committed in Moyamba District, Southern Province, Sierra Leone, in 2019.
according to Justice Monfred Momoh Sesay it was based on the confessional statement of the 5th accused and the evidence before the Court satisfied that the Prosecution has proved their case beyond reasonable doubt against the 2,3,7,8.9 and 10th accused, and convicted all six on count 1 of conspiracy to commit felony to with robbery, counts 4,5,6.7,8, and 11 of robbery offenses, and on count 13 of conspiracy to commit rape convicted the 7th and 8th accused Thomas Willoughby and Claud Kajue, and acquitted and discharged them on counts 2,3, 9, 10, and 14, which the Prosecution failed to lead on evidence on.
Sixteen accused were initially charged to court on joint counts of fourteen related offenses, and during the jail break of November, 26th they all went on the run, and six of them who are now convicts voluntarily returned to the Correctional Centre, at Pademba Road in Freetown, and one of the accused was during the trial reported dead after a short illness.
According to the Court records, the convicts were in May 2019 in Moyamba District, being armed with cutlass, attacked the St. Joseph Convent Parish and the resident of Reverend Jane Lahai of the Trinity United Methodist Church (UMC), and robbed Sister Mary Magdalene, and several others including Reverend Jane Lahai, her tenant and Daughter Martha Lahai of their mobile phones and fiscal cash.
The Court of Appeal Judge, Justice Monfred Momoh Sesay has for sentencing adjourned to the 2nd April 2025.
