The President of SLAJ, Alhaji Manika Kamara, on Monday, 28th July 2025, officially launched the maiden edition of The Aged Times magazine at the Ministry of Social Welfare Conference Room in New England Ville, Freetown.
He started by expressing his joy and gratitude towards the launch. ‘’ I am happy to be part of this significant event marking the launch of the maiden edition of The Aged Times magazine dedicated to reporting on the aged and advocating for their welfare and protection.’’

This publication is a bold statement of recognition, gratitude, and remembrance. It is a tribute to the men and women who walked before us, built the foundations we now stand on, and whose wisdom and sacrifices have helped shape our society. He Stated.
Kamara further noted that, in journalism, we often chase the latest story, the next breaking news. But today, we are reminded that some of the most powerful stories are not new; they are lived, and they are aging with grace. The Aged Times is expected to give voice to these stories and help ensure that the contributions of our elders are not lost in time, but documented, celebrated, and learned from.

‘’As SLAJ, we fully endorse this effort. We believe that every segment of society deserves a voice, especially our elderly, whose lives continue to teach us resilience, patience, and wisdom. We encourage more journalists to take an interest in this area of reporting, not only as a duty to society, but as a moral obligation.’’ He said.
He concluded by saying ‘’ Congratulations once again to DOFA on this groundbreaking publication. May this magazine continue to grow in reach and impact, and may it inspire a deeper culture of care and respect for the aged in Sierra Leone.
