On Monday, 9th September 2024, the outgoing Acting Director General of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS), Brig. General Sheikh Sulaiman Massaquoi, bid farewell to the officers at a muster parade in Freetown.
Addressing the officers, Brig. Gen. Massaquoi reflected on his tenure, recalling how he took over from Brigadier General Sahr Ngaujah approximately a year ago. He expressed his belief that he had upheld the trust placed in him, and now, it was time for him to hand over the reins back to Brig. Gen. Ngaujah.
Brig. Gen. Massaquoi reflected on life’s phases, stating, “your time has come, your time has not yet come, and your time has passed,” signifying the natural progression of leadership transitions. He acknowledged the government’s decision to retain military oversight of the SLCS, urging officers to support this and continue working for national progress.
During his tenure, the SLCS promoted officers for their good work after three years, a milestone he hoped would inspire both those promoted and those still awaiting elevation. He assured officers that efforts were in place to fulfill outstanding supplies, particularly bags of rice, with paperwork in advanced stages. Brig. Gen. Massaquoi commended the officers for their cooperation and urged them to maintain their commitment to the SLCS.
The incoming Acting Director General, Brigadier General Sahr D.T. Ngaujah, praised God for his safe return from a year’s study in Nigeria and for the healthy condition of the officers. He congratulated the newly promoted officers and encouraged those yet to be promoted to remain hopeful. Brig. Gen. Ngaujah emphasized the importance of keeping politics separate from their duties and committed to continuing the positive momentum established by his predecessor, promising to elevate the SLCS to even greater heights.
