The Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU) has announced the funeral arrangements for the alleged murdered teacher of Providence International School, Mr. Gillis Olarinde Johnson.
The Union made this announcement in a press release issued on Wednesday 29 March 2023.
SLTU states that they wish to draw the attention of all teachers and the general public to the funeral arrangements of their late colleague Mr. Gillis Olarinde Johnson, a former teacher at the Providence International School Freetown, who they understand was murdered in cold blood by a pupil of the same school.
They add, “On Wednesday, 29 March 2023, there will be a vigil at 25 John Street, Freetown from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The funeral and communion service will be held on the following day, Thursday 30 March at the Portuguese Town Methodist Church, Campbell Street, Freetown at 2:30 PM.”
The release continued that the body will be laid out on the same day Thursday 30th March 2023 at 25 John Street, Freetown, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The interment will be at the Ascension Town Cemetery.
“The Union is calling on all teachers across the country to consider Thursday 30 March 2023 as Black Thursday and in effect wear BLACK in solidarity of our fallen colleague. May the soul of Mr. Gillis Olarinda Johnson who met his death in active service through the mercy of God rest in peace,” SLTU stated.
