The Sierra Leone Water Company (SLWACO) and its Human Resource Manager, Jocansu Foray, took legal action on Monday, February 26th, 2024, by bringing one of its staff, Mohamed Lamin Kamara, to court for allegedly stealing a company vehicle.

Kamara stands accused before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Court No. 1 on a count of Larceny under Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.

The charges specify that on Saturday, November 6th, 2021, at No.13 Dan Lane, Fourah Bay, Freetown, Kamara purportedly stole a Grey Toyota Hilux valued at twenty thousand United States dollars (USD 20,000) equivalent to four hundred and sixty thousand new Leones (NLE 460,000), property of SLWACO. The court did not grant bail, and Kamara has been remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.

In a separate case brought before the same court, Adikalie Bangura faced charges of Fraudulent Conversion under Section 20 (1) (iv) (a) of the Larceny Act of 1916. The accusation states that between the 1st and 31st of January 2024, at Hill Top, Hill Station, Freetown, Bangura allegedly converted to his own use or benefit a TVS motorcycle with registration number AYZ 974, valued at thirty-eight thousand Leones, entrusted to him by Mohamed David for commercial purposes.

Similar to Kamara’s case, no bail was granted for Bangura, and the matter has been adjourned to March 4th, 2024.

Inspector Kadie Taylor and Sergeant 9939 Lahai M are prosecuting the respective cases.
