The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, has echoed President Julius Maada Bio’s declaration of National Remembrance Week, calling on Sierra Leoneans to reflect on the country’s eleven-year civil war.

Speaking in Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas emphasized that 2026 is a “year of action,” urging Members of Parliament to be prepared and motivated to drive the country’s development agenda.

He encouraged MPs to put the interests of Sierra Leone above all else while expressing concern over delays in achieving quorum during parliamentary sittings. He called on members to demonstrate greater diligence and commitment in 2026.

“We must attend sittings on time, as the people of Sierra Leone have placed their trust in the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic,” he said. “MPs must work tirelessly to deliver on their promises and contribute to national development.”

Speaker Thomas also wished all Members of Parliament and the people of Sierra Leone a prosperous 2026, emphasizing the importance of collaboration, accountability, and collective action in promoting national unity and driving progress.

He highlighted Parliament’s commitment to supporting the government’s development agenda and fostering citizen engagement, stressing that MPs are expected to rise to the challenge and work together to improve the lives of Sierra Leoneans.
