Sierra Leone Sports Administrator, Solomon Desmond Kargbo, is in court for allegedly fraudulent obtaining monies on several individuals for travel overseas.
The 54-year-old administrator has made an initial appearance before Magistrate Mark Ngegba at Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown on indictments of alleged fraud.
Kargbo stands charged with obtaining twenty-three thousand, seven hundred and fifty Leones from the complainant, Aminata Sento Kamara, under the pretext of facilitating her travel from Sierra Leone to Australia, knowing that the claim was false. Kargbo faces a single charge of obtaining money by false pretense, which is in violation of the law.
The police further alleged that on the same date and location in Freetown, Kargbo obtained NLe76,500 from Augustine Conteh, again with the pretext of facilitating travel to Australia, understanding that it was based on false information.
Moreover, the accused is indicted of securing two thousand, eight hundred United States dollars ($2,800), equivalent to sixty-seven thousand Leones (NLe67,000), from Tejan Korosa, misleading him into believing that he would assist Marie Sesay, Matilda Tengbeh, and her son, Tejan Korosa, in traveling to Australia, Spain, and Ireland, even though this was not the case.
Furthermore, on February 28, 2023, the accused is said to have obtained three thousand, four hundred United States dollars under the guise of facilitating the travel of the complainants to the United States of America, despite knowing that this claim was false.
Following a bail request made by defense counsel Lansana Dumbuya, Magistrate Ngegba granted bail in the amount of Le 50,000 to the accused. The case has been adjourned until October 13, 2023, for further proceedings. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ibrahim S. Mansaray is prosecuting the matter.
