The St. Edward’s Secondary School community laid its beloved Junior Secondary School Principal, Mrs. Alimatu Massaquoi, to rest on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, in a somber ceremony filled with grief.
Mrs. Massaquoi, a respected educator, died tragically on Sunday, October 19, after being struck by a vehicle at Congo Cross.
According to eyewitness reports, an object slipped from her hand as she was crossing the street. When she bent down to retrieve it, she was hit by a speeding car. She succumbed to her injuries while being transported to the 34 Military Hospital.

The funeral was the culmination of several days of mourning by the “Edwardian Family.” A memorial mass and candlelight vigil had been held earlier in the week, where students, alumni, and staff paid tribute to her dedication and leadership.
Described in eulogies as an “astute educationist” and a guiding maternal figure, Mrs. Massaquoi’s passing has left a significant void in the school community. Tributes poured in, highlighting her profound impact on both the institution and the country’s basic education sector.
She is survived by her husband, Mr. Andrew J. Massaquoi, also a revered teacher and former mentor to many students.
The family, together with the entire school community, has been united in grief, remembering a leader whose legacy of “kindness and dedication” will be deeply missed.
