State prosecutors have closed their case in the murder trial of Abdul Kpaka Murder over the death of his girlfriend, Sia Fatu Kamara. The state presented 10 witnesses, and tendered one witness statement along with 28 exhibits in a bid to prove their case against the defendant.
Addressing Justice Alfred Ganda at the High Court in Freetown prosecutor Yusuf Isaac Sesay noted that the defendant, Abdul Kpaka was brought to the High Court pursuant to the High Court order stipulated in section 136 of the Criminal Procedure Act 1965, which has been repealed and now located at section 126 of the Criminal Procedure Act 2024.
He said the High Court order was made in indictment ex-officio information rules of 1969 and that on September 3, 2024, the court issued a two-count indictment of deferment against the defendant.
The prosecutor said the order contained a warrant of arrest for the defendant to appear before the High Court on September 16, 2024 and that the order was complied with. He told the court that four of their witnesses enlisted at the back of the indictment were not called so they dispensed with those witnesses.
The lead defence Lawyer, Emmanuel Teddy Koroma was not in court but another member of the defence team lawyer F. Bayoh, asked the court for an adjournment for their client, Abdul Kpaka to determine how he intends to defend himself.
Kpaka is indicted on one count of murder and another of perverting the course of justice over the death of Sia Kamara. The incident allegedly occurred on August 13, 2024.
The case resumes February 25, 2026.
