Steady Bongo, a legendary figure in Sierra Leonean music, tragically passed away following a motorcycle accident in Bo District. His elder brother, Coker Lasana, who had been his close companion for over two decades in the music industry, shared the heartbreaking details of his final moments.

According to Lasana, the duo had recently visited a village in Kenema District. On their return journey, they stopped at Nadajuwa Sowa in Bo District, where Steady Bongo expressed his need to rest due to extreme fatigue. He stayed at the home of one of his promoters, known as Commander. Later, he visited his ailing brother, T.K. Silaci, in Kotoru village.

In a gesture of support, Steady Bongo canceled a planned musical show for his brother, intending to wait until Silaci regained his health. After the visit, he decided to proceed to Lee village, where he was scheduled to perform later that day.

Tragedy struck as Steady Bongo traveled by motorcycle. The bike collided with a stationary car, leaving him and the rider critically injured. According to Lasana, no one was present at the accident scene to offer immediate assistance. It was only after a passerby alerted them that Steady Bongo was rushed to a nearby health center.

Efforts to transfer him to Bo Government Hospital by ambulance were initiated, but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries en route.

Steady Bongo’s untimely death has left a void in Sierra Leone’s music scene. Renowned for his contribution to Afrobeat and traditional Sierra Leonean music, he was celebrated for hits that resonated with fans across generations.
