A 31-year-old student, Sahr George Kabba, has been remanded at the Male Correctional Centre following allegations of defrauding a couple in a fake New Zealand visa scheme.
The case, presided over by Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at Pademba Road Court No.1, involves claims that Kabba obtained Le144 million from Edward and Salamatu Koroma between September 1, 2024, and February 28, 2024. He allegedly promised to secure travel visas for their sons to New Zealand, despite knowing the offer was fraudulent.
Sergeant Mohamed Lahai of the Transnational Organized Crime Unit testified that Kabba was arrested on March 18, 2025, after an investigation uncovered receipts, a falsified E-Visa, and WhatsApp messages used to deceive the victims.
Kabba reportedly admitted to the allegations in a caution statement, which he validated with a thumbprint in the presence of law enforcement officers.
Given the seriousness of the offence, Magistrate Jah ordered Kabba’s remand and adjourned the matter for further proceedings.
This case underscores the growing vigilance of Sierra Leone’s justice system in tackling transnational fraud and protecting citizens from visa-related scams.
