In a startling incident that has raised alarm across Pujehun district, six suspects managed to escape from police custody, prompting an intensive manhunt by authorities and public concern over security.
Confirming the incident, ASP John Kenawa Square, Media and Community Relations Officer at Pujehun Police Division stated that the escape occurred at approximately 03:05 hours on Saturday, July 13th 2024. According to Inspector Hassan Vice Sesay, Operations Officer of the division, the suspects fled from the Pujehun police station cell around 01:50 hours the same day.
ASP Square assured the public that the Complain Discipline Internal Investigation Department (CDIID) has launched a thorough investigation into the escape. This investigation focuses on both the officers responsible for overseeing the suspects and those on duty at the time of the incident.
“Escape is something that can happen everywhere, and Pujehun police cell is not exempt,” ASP Square acknowledged. He emphasized ongoing efforts by the police and the community to locate and apprehend the escaped suspects swiftly.
“We have systems in place to address this issue and ensure the security of our district,” ASP Square affirmed, urging the community to remain vigilant. He underscored that any member of the community encountering an escaped suspect should promptly notify authorities for re-apprehension and return to custody.
The escape has stirred significant apprehension among residents of Pujehun, prompting heightened security measures and a collaborative effort between law enforcement and the public to secure the return of the suspects to face justice.
