Sierra Leonean Timber Traders are reported to have come up with a new tactics to avoid payment and smuggle timber logs to China via Guinea.

This new tactics was design after the  Sierra Leone Police and Military stopped 65 containers of 40-60Ft trailers fully loaded with Timber Logs at the Gbalamuya Border over the weekend.

The Timber Traders knowing that the police have discovered their previous route, have now moved away from Gbalamuya checkpoint to bring them to Rokupa in Wellington.

According to one of Sierra Leone’s Blogger, Albert Momoh, The plan is to smuggle them into boats at the Rokupa wharf to Guinea by sea and by so doing, they would not only destroy the forest but also gets away with not paying the revenue.

Expert Sources in the timber trade reveals that while Lead way pay revenue into Government account and pay for afforestation, the smugglers don’t pay a dime to the government.
