Local Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Sierra Leone, Tacugama has been left handicapped by theft. The Sanctuary was left bemused when thieves stole their Toyota Land Cruiser used in chimpanzee rescue.
The Sanctuary has said that they heavily rely on the car for critical field operations.
Tacugama has launched an appeal to their supporters to replace the vehicle.
Founder and Executive Director, Bala Amarasekaran said the theft is a “huge blow to operations of the sanctuary.”
He added that they will not be able to carry out rescue missions and said a replacement is crucial.
Bala appealed for supporters to help with a replacement as soon as possible.
The Sanctuary, located just outside the capital Freetown, is the only chimpanzee rescue centre in Sierra Leone.
It has served as an integral part in Sierra Leone’s wildlife conservation and tourism sector.
