The presiding magistrate of Ross Road court number one, Sahr Kekura, has ruled to remand Osman Santigie Kamara, a driver of the Sierra Leone Red Cross, along with two mechanics, Alie Koroma and Farah Conteh, despite their lawyer’s request for bail.

They are accused of stealing valuable items from the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS) in Waterloo.

The stolen items, including dashboards and other valuables, are estimated to be worth thousands of Leones. The accused were arraigned on ten counts of conspiracy and other related offenses, according to police records.

The allegations state that on September 22, 2023, the accused conspired with unknown individuals to commit larceny at the Sierra Leone Red Cross. They reportedly stole property from three vehicles with a total value of one hundred thirty-six thousand, two hundred and sixty Leones.

A key witness, Amidu Morlai Kamara, who works for Franceair Security Company, identified all three accused persons in connection with the case. He explained that he received a call to replace a colleague at the Sierra Leone Red Cross on the same day and subsequently encountered the two suspects, Alie Koroma and Fallah Conteh, who claimed they were sent there by someone named Mr. Usman.

The prosecution requested an adjournment to confer with their witness, while the defense counsel applied for bail, citing the Criminal Procedure Act of 1965. The prosecutor opposed the bail application, highlighting the existence of other suspects connected to the case who are currently evading arrest.

Magistrate Sahr Kekura ultimately decided to deny bail, expressing concerns about potential interference with the prosecution, and noting that the first accused is a driver for the Sierra Leone Red Cross. The case is adjourned to November 8, 2023, for further proceedings, and the accused persons are to be remanded at the male correctional center.
