Tragedy struck in Mosongo town, Kori Chiefdom, Moyamba district, on Tuesday morning, April 9th, as a suspected thief lost his life while being apprehended by the public.

The incident has prompted swift action from the Sierra Leone Police, with the Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Bo taking charge of the case.

The unfortunate turn of events unfolded when the Officer in charge of Njala Police post, DSP. Camal, responded to reports of a suspected thief being brutally beaten by a furious mob. DSP. Camal intervened promptly, arresting the suspect and arranging for medical assistance.

Despite efforts to ensure the suspect’s safety, tragedy struck as the suspect tragically passed away at Njala Junction. In response, authorities have detained seven individuals, including two eyewitnesses, for their alleged involvement in the incident.

The body of the deceased has been transferred to the Bo morgue for a thorough postmortem examination to determine the cause of death. Meanwhile, the regional CID in Bo has initiated a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest, subsequent death, and the conduct of those present.

The primary focus of the investigation is to establish accountability and ensure justice is served.
