The President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Thomas Daddy Brima, and Rodney Michael, Chairman of Mighty Blackpool FC, were in attendance at the highly anticipated TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 Final Draw, held today in Rabat, Morocco.
They were invited by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to represent Sierra Leone at the prestigious event held at the Mohammed V National Theatre.
While the occasion marked an exciting step toward the upcoming AFCON 2025 tournament, President Brima expressed his disappointment over Sierra Leone’s failure to qualify for this edition of the competition.
In an exclusive statement, he reflected on the nation’s absence from the tournament, reiterating his determination to secure Sierra Leone’s place in future AFCON tournaments. “We will do everything within our power to ensure our presence in the continent’s biggest football tournament come next qualifiers,” Brima said.
His tenure has already been marked by a significant achievement—Sierra Leone’s historic qualification for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, their first in over two decades.
This achievement sparked immense pride among Sierra Leoneans both at home and abroad, and President Brima remains resolute in his belief that Sierra Leone can once again compete on the continental stage. “A repeat of this is never impossible. We have to do what we have to do, however, to put our house in proper order,” he added.
Rodney Michael, in his dual role as both the Chairman of Mighty Blackpool FC and an influential member of the African Club Association (ACA), joined Brima in Morocco.
Michael’s involvement underscores his commitment to advancing Sierra Leonean and African football. His presence at the draw is seen as part of ongoing efforts to create pathways for greater development and representation in African football.
The AFCON 2025 tournament promises to showcase some of the best football talent from across the continent, and although Sierra Leone will not be participating this time around, the groundwork laid by leaders like Brima and Michael offers hope for a brighter future.
