The Bombali District Resident Magistrate, His Worship Magistrate Ibrahim Yillah has on Friday 3rd May 2024 sent to the Makeni Correctional Center on remand three family members standing accused of assaulting one Isha Turay, a neighbor and her six-month-old baby in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone.
According to the Particulars of Offense, Isha S Kamara, the wife of Camilo Abdulai Kamara, a senior member of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party in Bombali District, and two other members of the family, Jeneba S. Ellie and Kadiatu Bangura allegedly assaulted Isha Turay, the mother of the six-month-old baby, on the 8th of April 2024 at Lunsar Road in Makeni. The three were charged with assault related offenses.
During the Court hearing, the victim was not present in Court and the matter was adjourned to the 8th May 2024. Magistrate Yillah denied bail to three accused persons and they were remanded until May 8th 2024 when the matter will come up again.
Coincidentally, the three accused persons are also separately being investigated by the Sierra Leone Police for allegedly assaulting the six month old Mamoud Kondeh Jr leaving him with pain and a neck injury.
Sources close to the Sierra Leone Police say the file in connection to the six-month-old baby will be sent to the State Counsel in the Northeast region for his legal advice. The baby and her mother were allegedly assaulted by the family on the same date.
Meanwhile, the three accused persons are currently at the Makeni Correctional Center awaiting the next adjourned date.
The boy, the family says was left with an injured neck and the family of the accused persons were allegedly bragging that nothing will come out of the matter because they’re politically connected, according to the Kondeh family.
The matter will come up again on May 8th 2024.
Good action by Magistrate Yillah, a clear indication that we are all equal before the law.
