The Chairperson of the Tonkolili District Council, Madam Yabom Sesay has on Tuesday 24th September 2024 handed over a brand-new Dump truck to the residents of Mile 91 in the Northern District of Tonkolili.
The handing ceremony was done immediately after a monthly meeting in Mile 91 organized by the Tonkolili District Council. In her handing over statement, the Chairperson said the truck was handed over to the District Council by the Ministry of the Local Government.
Recognizing the challenges the town faces in terms of gathering dumps, Madam Sesay said Mile 91 was selected to be the beneficiary of the brand-new Dump truck which she said will minimize those challenges. The truck was handed over to the Paramount Chiefs present during the meeting and the three Councillors from the Chiefdom on behalf of the people of the Mile 91 community.
The Tonkolili District Council, the Chairperson said is committed to help alleviate the people of Tonkolili District from poverty and surfering and she urged the people in turn to cooperate with the Council for sustainable development.
On behalf of the people, PC Dr Masakama Madibie II, the Chairman of National Council of Paramount Chiefs in Tonkolili District lauded what he called is the timely intervention by the District Council.
He called on the authorities and residents to make good use of the truck and for its intended purpose. Immediately after the truck was handed over, it was agreed that the authorities took it to the Mile 91 Police Station for safe keeping until the authorities planned how and when it would be used. Residents were also called on to monitor how the truck will be used to avoid being misused by certain individuals for selfish interest and personal gain.
Like many who witnessed the occasion, residents expressed happiness and assured the Tonkolili District Council of their support.
